The dependable classic that gave “blue collar” its name—with a California twist.
Few garments hold a place in American history as significant as the trusty work shirt. Designated by the US Navy for official service at the turn of the 20th century, the shirt that gave rise to the term “blue collar” found its way to the backs of greasers, surfers, and icons like Dean and Brando as the beach lifestyle exploded into the mainstream.
Born to work but destined for something greater, our Chambray Work Shirt takes the staple silhouette and infuses it with Birdwell durability and signature style. Crafted in our Santa Ana factory from the same luxurious chambray used for our 310 Chambray and 311 Sunrise board shorts, it earns the name from hem to collar, with orange SurfNyl™ at the yoke and cuffs as well as triple and double-reinforced seams in orange and gold. Interwoven from white and blue cotton that conceals wear while always looking perfectly relaxed.
