New gold board shorts are perfect for upcoming spring break.

Folks,
I just purchased a pair of the new inferior design board shorts with shoe string ties. Who on earth would even think to cheap out on this garbage? It wasn't broke so who decided to fix it? Did anyone try to tie or untie these cotton shoe strings when they are wet? Also did you go to China to purchase the tin lightweight grommets? Not only did the first pair grommets rip out in a week on my replacement pair but, it seems the reinforcement material that the grommets are cut into seem thinner. These shorts are garbage at best. Close shop if you decide to go down the drain on quality on a $100. 00+ pair of board shorts. I have been a loyal customer since the early 80s and I will now buy used vintage on eBay. Who is running the business now a foreign company? God please save Birdwell. This truly is not funny to me and I would imagine too any loyal old school customer.

One fine pair of Board Shorts!

I finally ordered the correct size for me.
SurfNyl does not stretch! But it fits perfectly when ordered right. I’ve always been a 34, but lately I’ve been ordering 34 “stretch” from other vendors so when I ordered 34 it was way too tight. So tight that I skipped a size and went to a 36. They fit perfectly and feel great. Do yourself a favor and order a size up.

Love my 300 Comp Stripe board shorts! Very retro looking. I have bought Birdwells since the mid 70's. Never ever have been disappointed!

We ordered the suggested size, however it was too tight. Go with your normal size.

The Frog Skin camo pattern is awesome. It is the closest match to the original I have seen out there. (see picture)
The design, style, materials, and function of the 300 and 808 board shorts are both first class.

Note: I found Birdwell’s AI customer service responsive but not in sync with the human follow through. This led to mis-shipments and delays.

I like the Birdwell product line and they're the ONLY surf/swim trucks I've boughf or worn in 50+ years.
Their supply pipeline, size & color choices are frustrating. I've been trying to get a 300 Legend in Red, Bone & Blue for some time now. They had a small arrival of newly made and sold out in a few days. I got the wrong size, (using their size guide) tried to exchange and within 3 days the 38's & 40's were sold out. As were the other big boy sizes in 2 different color schemes. I had to return for refund the 36's I ordered.
Good product, last for ever, quick dry, bad supply stock.

I wore Birdwells back in the day and appreciate the fact that I can get something today that is near to what I could get then. I don’t still have an old pair to compare but I believe the shortest length is what was made back then. At my age I think their medium length shorts are the best look and these have perfect length. Material feels the same too. Good job guys. Things I don’t care for: 1. The button fly instead of the Velcro of the past. These buttons are a poor choice. You are going to have to button them while they are in your hands (not on your body) so going to the restroom in these things is way more difficult than it should be. Think blue jeans that the zipper doesn’t go down-all you get to do is unbutton the button at the top and get them down with the zipper up. Wrong. Only other thing that I will complain about is the tag. I’m as patriotic as the next guy and appreciate things made in America. I’m glad they make these shorts here, but I don’t want the tag stating that fact always prominently displayed. The old shorts just had the Birdwell tag on the back, let’s just go back to that. If you want to put a removable or interior tag with made in the USA -great. If anybody from Birdwell is reading this, bring back the bright yellow shorts-the yellow you offer now is too dark.

I like the look of these shorts, but the quality is not there. Especially for that price.

They feel so thin. They feel like those plastic table clothes you buy last minute to put over a gray folding table because you’re a bad host and you didn’t buy a quality table cloth ahead of time.

These shorts are awesome. Great colors & classic look. I’m 65 and I’ve only worn Birdwells since I was 12.

Disappointed with both the sizing consistency and customer service. I purchased two pairs of 300 Boardshorts in size 36—orange and olive/bone. The orange pair measured more than half an inch smaller in the waist despite being the same style and labeled size.

I sent photos clearly showing the difference, but customer service responded that they didn’t understand the problem. I exchanged the orange pair, only to receive another pair with essentially the same sizing issue.

I like Birdwell’s products, but at this price point I expect consistent sizing and better customer service when there’s an obvious quality-control issue.
